About Fifth Generation Advisers

Most retirement portfolios are managed for efficiency, not attention. If you are like many investors we speak with, you have probably wondered whether your adviser is truly researching your investments and actively thinking about portfolio risk—or simply placing you into the same broad solutions used for everyone else.

At Fifth Generation Advisers, we believe retirement planning deserves hands-on care. We are a family practice, not a big-box portfolio management store. We customize portfolios around a simple idea: understand the risks you own, understand the value you are buying, and stay dynamic enough to respond when opportunity appears.

We believe many retirement investors face a triple whammy. First, concentration risk: portfolios that appear diversified may still be crowded into the same dominant stocks and sectors. Second, inflation risk: cash that feels safe can quietly lose purchasing power over time. Third, interest-rate risk: bond-heavy allocations can decline in value when rates rise.

That is why our approach is designed to be clear, disciplined, and personal. We do not believe your future should be managed on autopilot.

Strategy

How we manage wealth

Our process starts with you. We begin by clarifying your goals, time horizon, and financial needs—retirement income, legacy planning, savings for future generations, and the role each account plays in your broader plan. From there, we translate those priorities into a long-term investment strategy designed to keep you invested through changing markets, not reacting to every headline.

The portfolios we manage may look familiar: diversified mixes of stocks and bonds, similar to the traditional 60/40 or asset allocation approach. The difference is that we decide the composition of the asset mix, not a distant Wall Street model or a black-box algorithm. Our work is rooted in value investing—seeking assets that are priced attractively relative to their fundamentals, not simply those that are most popular at the moment.

In practice, that means we are comfortable being out of step with short-term trends. If an idea is being discussed endlessly on the news, there is a good chance it is not a core holding in your portfolio. As Benjamin Graham observed, “In the short run, the market is a voting machine, but in the long run it is a weighing machine.” We aim to focus on the weighing—what an investment is truly worth over time.

To do that, we use a range of analytical methods to evaluate risk and security value. An investment thesis must pass several tests, including clear rationale, sensible valuation, and an understanding of market sentiment and momentum. Only when an opportunity aligns across these dimensions and supports your long-term goals do we consider it an appropriate addition to your portfolio.

Over time, we revisit the strategy with you—testing whether your current allocation still matches your objectives and comfort level. That ongoing dialogue, combined with our value discipline, is how we seek to manage risk thoughtfully while giving your capital the chance to be rewarded for patience.

Services

What we provide

Our core service is active portfolio management using a multi-sleeve framework. Instead of treating your accounts as a single, blended mix, we divide your capital into distinct sleeves aligned with purpose and risk—such as cash and liquidity needs, real assets and inflation protection, income generation, long-term growth and value, and higher-risk alpha opportunities.

Each sleeve is managed independently and can be used alone or in combination, depending on your goals, time horizon, and willingness to take risk. Together, they form a coordinated portfolio designed to preserve liquidity where needed, seek income where appropriate, and pursue long-term appreciation and selective opportunity where it makes sense for you.

Active Portfolio Management

We build and manage portfolios across multiple sleeves that reflect different objectives—cash & liquidity, real assets, income assets, growth & value, and alpha opportunity—so each part of your portfolio has a clear purpose.

Financial Planning

We offer standalone and integrated financial planning on an hourly or fixed-fee basis, covering cash flow, retirement, education funding, insurance review, tax planning coordination, and investment allocation review.

Retirement Tax Optimization

We help retirees think strategically about how and when to draw from tax-deferred accounts, with the aim of mitigating long-term tax liability and preserving more of their accumulated savings.
